2. What this policy covers
This policy covers our website, early-access sign-up, and the ilanaa app on Android and iOS, including the Business Assistant. It applies to:
- Vendors: business owners who use ilanaa
- Buyers: people who chat with a vendor’s Business Assistant
3. What we collect
- From vendors: name, phone, email, password (encrypted), business details, products, prices, stock, Business Assistant settings, connected channels, and wallet transactions. We never store full card numbers.
- From buyers: name or handle, phone number, chat messages, offers and orders, received through the vendor’s channels.
- From website visitors and sign-ups: email or WhatsApp number, country, device, browser and IP address.
- From anyone who contacts us: support messages.
4. Why we use it
We use your data to:
- create and run your account, wallet and Business Assistant
- reply to buyers and complete orders within the vendor’s prices
- process payments and keep records the law requires
- send early-access and launch updates, if you agree
- keep ilanaa secure and prevent fraud and spam
- improve the service, using combined statistics where possible
- answer support requests
We only do this where the law allows: to provide the service you signed up for, to meet legal duties, for our legitimate business needs, or with your consent. We do not sell your data.
5. The Business Assistant
The Business Assistant uses AI to reply to buyers for the vendor, following the vendor’s prices and rules.
- Vendors choose which channels it answers, can take over any chat, and must tell buyers that an automated assistant may reply.
- Buyers can ask to speak to a person at any time. We process your messages on the vendor’s behalf.
- Important decisions stay with people. Offers below the vendor’s minimum price are sent to the vendor to decide.
- Messages are processed by a third-party AI provider, which is not allowed to use them to train its models.
6. Who we share data with
We share data only with trusted providers who help us run ilanaa and must protect it:
- hosting: Vercel (website) and Amazon Web Services (app)
- messaging: Meta (WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook) and Telegram
- payments: Paystack
- AI: a third-party AI provider that generates the Business Assistant’s replies
- authorities, where Nigerian law or a court order requires it
Some providers are outside Nigeria, such as in the US and EU. We only transfer data abroad with the safeguards the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) requires.
7. How long we keep it
- Early-access contacts: until 12 months after launch, or until you unsubscribe
- Vendor accounts: while open, then deleted within 5 days of closing
- Buyer chats and orders: up to 24 months after the last message
- Transaction records: 6 years, as tax law requires
- Security logs: up to 12 months
8. How we protect it
We encrypt data in transit and at rest, limit staff access, and review our security regularly. If a breach puts your rights at risk, we will tell the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) within 72 hours and inform you promptly.
9. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you or give you a copy of your data
- correct or delete it
- stop or limit how we use it, including for marketing
- send it to you or another provider
- withdraw your consent at any time
- have a person review any automated decision that seriously affects you

10. Other things to know
- Cookies: we don’t use advertising or tracking cookies. Our site uses Google Fonts, which receives your IP address. To show prices in naira or US dollars, your browser also sends your IP address to country.is, a free service that only tells us your country.
- Children: ilanaa is for businesses and not meant for anyone under 18.
- Changes: we’ll post updates here and notify vendors in the app about major changes.
- Complaints: contact us first. You can also complain to the NDPC at ndpc.gov.ng.
